Culture is code, designed to structure interaction by creating rulesets which let us play together. But no singular system exists, no one true culture, no overarching framework. It's just a tangle of nested grammars, jury rigged circuits hanging together by virtue of bad soldering.
Context collapses in the midst of this mess, buckling under the weight of too many datelines holding on to cybernetic tin cans all connected to the same string (pulled too tight).
And Football sits at the centre of this confusion. Why football you ask?
Well, there are...
...too many regional codes.
...too many esoteric rules.
...too many simultaneous games connected to the same word, each jostling for semantic supremacy in a cloud of dust and human limbs.
In the midst of this chaos, two artists from opposite ends of the globe found each other: David B. Applegate (US) and doktorb (Aus), each with their own wildly different understandings of what constitutes football. Together, their music could STOP THE FOOTBALL - even if (or… because) they can’t agree on which football they are talking about stopping.
All football must end.
Augurs foretelling the end of all codes, David B. Applegate and doktorb have become agents of football's destruction. "Football Stoppers" is a disrupting spectacle which, if it found its way onto any of the world's innumerable game fields, would stop everyone dead in their tracks.
The ballers… would stop
The refs… would stop
The fans… would stop
The vendors… would stop
They would stop and stare into the unrelenting sun of our tracks. You are hereby invited to do the same.
