About this split
Too Hands and David B. Applegate don't get to see each other enough. They just live so far apart. It doesn't help that Too has been unable to paint watercolors of drumsets for David since the accident. And David hasn't had much time to reach out either, what with his new government contract to make Martian jazz.
Anyone could see the relationship wilting. Songs unfinished. Texts unanswered. Edible Arrangements uneaten.
These recordings are from their last-ditch attempts to reconnect.
Too Hands says, “I made 'Dumbset 4-5-6' with one-shot drum samples, no loops. I improvised the 8-minute percussion ensemble with Max/MSP and a custom fork of Google Sheets. We mixed it at the Muzak Fact'ry in Nashville with an old copy of Kid Pix that was reportedly downloaded by Tammy Wynette’s engineer's nephew. We tested the track with WinAmp v15.3 and it still crushed. But I’m deaf in my right ear so there’s like half of this track I haven’t heard."
David B. Applegate writes, “Recorded at my home in Ellensburg, WA amidst the great potato hills, the three tracks I present today divulge their secrets with a grunt, a clink, a bang, and finally, the warbling voice of a maniacal whisperer. Beginning with 'Almost year end,' continuing with 'The Commodore,' and concluding with 'The sunny day,' I definitively answer the question posed by Kim Hyesoon in her poem ‘Cambodia:’
“how can roots hover in the sky
like a relentless curse”
